This ethnically diverse and lively district ''East' known to locals simply as Oost, with noticeable street names, originating from the former Dutch colony, the Dutch East Indies.Part of Oost was once known as Zeeburg, as of 2010 the former district merged with Oost. Although it's comprised of Ijburg, Indische Buurt (Indies Neighborhood) and Oostelijk Havengebied KNSM Eilanden (Eastern Docklands).
The popular shopping boulevard and hotspot in Oost is the Javastraat, the place to be for an exotic experience and taste of Amsterdam, offering a wide range of eclectic cuisines, with the best Indonesian, surinamese and middle eastern food in the district!
